Thinking about going to College?
Pursuing a college degree is one of the best choices anyone can ever make.
Pursuing a college degree is one of the best choices anyone can ever make. Whether you are going to pursue a community college degree, a vocational school certificate, a university degree or career college diploma, you will need either an accredited high school diploma or GED ® for admission.
The first thing to do is to select a college or university and then determine their admission requirements. Every college determines its own admissions policies. Sometimes a high school diploma or GED ® alone will not automatically qualify you for college admission at a particular college. For example, you may also need a certain GPA, or you might need to take either the SAT or ACT standardized exams and administer other college placement testing. Excel High School is a member of the College Board. As a student attending our school, you can take either the ACT or SAT exam. Please contact us for more information at (952) 465-3700. All American colleges and universities recognize Excel High School's accreditation.
Another important aspect to consider when pursuing a college education is how you are going to pay for it. Are you going to work your way through college, or depend on government-backed student loans or Federally backed grants? If you are seeking a government student loan (FAFSA) or grant, you will need to have a department of education recognized accredited high school diploma; i.e. an accredited non-public or public high school diploma or State GED ®. Student loans (FAFSA) are big business. There are more restrictions when borrowing money from the government. With the recent changes in Federal student financial aid policies, the government will not offer financial aid for students that attended an unaccredited school. This is why it's important to select a Regionally accredited high school. Earning a high school diploma from Excel High School will ensure that you have options to attend the college, university or trade school of your choice.
There are literally thousands of post-secondary opportunities available for both on campus and online learning. Completing an accredited high school diploma will always be a prerequisite for attending a college or university. A great place to start when selecting a college is to complete an online search for the career field that interests you. You can use the Excel High School MyPlan college planner. You can also search for college placement websites. There is a world of opportunities for students seeking a college degree. Explore your options and understand what is needed to be successful in both completing an online high school program and a college degree. Current Excel students and graduates should contact the EHS Counseling Office for assistance with college placement and requirements.
