High School Equivalency Certificate HSEC/GED® program outline:
Purpose: To provide the opportunity for at risk students and underserved adult drop out students the chance to earn a high school equivalency certificate (HSEC) through self-study and EHS course competency equivalency examinations in a matter of weeks.
Excel High School believes that everyone should have access to a high school equivalency certificate or diploma; and so we now offer our accredited (HSEC) program online. It is possible to earn your accredited high school certificate in a matter of weeks.
A high school equivalency certificate (HSEC), GED® or high school diploma is a minimum requirement for most jobs today; for all branches of the military, many State university systems and a growing number of employers, the GED® certificate is not the same as a high school diploma or (HSEC). Please read our FAQ page for more information. Excel High School does not issue a GED®.
The online (HSEC) program consists of the following:
EHS will measure core competencies in the areas listed (a-f) and complete. Completing and passing a timed, online examination consisting of the following subject areas:
- Mathematics
- Social Studies
- Science
- English
- Literature
- Writing Essay 250 word minimum on selected topic(s).
These exams are very similar to the GED®, but are taken from any location, online. Excel High School does not offer a GED®, but a High School Equivalency Certificate. (HSEC)
Once the candidate makes application for the (HSEC) program at Excel High School and then begins the program. When the candidate passes the (HSEC) final test with a score of 70% or better, in each subject area and completes the final written thesis: the candidate has completed the program and will be eligible to receive a high school equivalency certificate and official transcripts.
The student’s ability to pass the (HSEC) final test, complete the program and receive their high school equivalency certificate will depend upon many factors, such as the last school grade completed, how frequently the student participates in the program, etc. Some students who are very motivated may be able to complete the program in as little as weeks; but some students take up to 3, 6, 12-months, or longer to finish the program and receive their accredited high school equivalency certificate. Students must complete this program within 12-months. A 60-day extension may be granted in certain cases, for students that require more study and preparation time. There is a $ 50.00 fee for the extension and you must apply for the extension within 60-days of your program expiration date. Students that do not complete the adult high school program within one year’s time and do not apply for the extension; will be dropped from the program. We feel most students, on average, should be able to complete the (HSEC) program in 3-month’s timeframe; from start to finish.
When a student completes the Excel High School (HSEC) program, the student will be a high school graduate and will be able to use their (HSEC) for employment and continuing education purposes. *restrictions may apply, so please call us with any questions and speak with our knowledgeable admissions counselors.
