New York State previously had limited guidance for colleges regarding online high school diplomas earned by New York residents. While Excel High School has always been accredited, this created inconsistent admissions outcomes for some New York students pursuing higher education.

Recent legislation has addressed this issue, allowing New York colleges to recognize accredited online high school diplomas when evaluating applicants. This change helps ensure that New York students are evaluated fairly, regardless of whether their diploma was earned online or in a traditional setting.

Online High School Options in New York State

New York is home to one of the largest and most diverse higher education systems in the country. Historically, some New York colleges applied different standards to online high school diplomas earned by in-state students, even when those diplomas were fully accredited.

That landscape has changed. Updated state legislation now allows New York colleges to recognize accredited online high school diplomas when reviewing applications, helping remove a long-standing barrier for New York residents choosing online education.
