High School Honors Physics Course
Excel High School's Honors Physics course is an immersive and thought-provoking program that introduces students to the fundamental concepts of Physics, the science of matter, energy, and their interactions. This course goes beyond the basics, challenging students to deepen their understanding through engaging case studies. These studies encourage students to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios, fostering a deeper comprehension of the subject matter. This course is ideal for students who are intrigued by the physical world and eager to explore the mechanisms that underpin our natural environment.
In the Honors Physics course, students will not only learn about theoretical concepts but also understand that Physics is about questioning and exploring the 'how' and 'why' behind natural phenomena. The course covers a range of topics, from the nature of physics and its related fields to the detailed study of motion, including displacement, speed/time, and velocity. Students will delve into the causes of circular motion and gravitation, and explore the intricacies of electric fields, including the study of charges, conductors, insulators, and the properties of conductors in electrostatic equilibrium. This course is designed to not only impart knowledge but also to inspire curiosity and a scientific mindset, crucial for students aiming for higher education in science or engineering fields.
Honors Physics
Course Syllabus
This course introduces students to the basic concepts of Physics, which is the branch of science that primarily studies matter, energy, and their interactions. This Honors Physics course then expands on the basic concepts of Physics by having the students interact with case studies, which ask the student to dive deeper into their understandings of the topics. Using the scientific method, physicists hypothesize relationships, design experiments, and complete tests to turn those hypotheses into theories. Students learn Physics is more than numbers and equations; it is about asking how and why things work and questioning everything we see in the natural world.
