Summer Is Coming! Avoid The Summer Slide

May 16, 2022 by Excel High School

Ah, summer! Time for the kids to put away their schoolwork and stare at a screen…or two…or three for the next couple of months. Of course, if you want to avoid the summer slide where your children lose some of their academic progress and just sort of let their brains atrophy for the summer, then you might need to get creative with your approach. Giving teens a way to use some of their time constructively can help your children keep their brains fresh and active until school starts.

Movies, TV Shows, YouTube channels, and book series have all been dedicated to the high school experience. Sure they’re fun to watch or read, but most of them don’t show the real experience. The drama of those high school shows or books are fun, but they don’t really prepare you for the parts of high school outside of the social aspects. Sure, navigating the social side of your transition is important, but what about academics?

Excel High School is a great school! My daughter was in another online high school last year, but she was not challenged and was not being prepared for college.

Since starting this year at Excel, she is being fully challenged in honors courses. My daughter told me the other day, "mom, I have never had to work so hard in school". We love you Excel High School and Anna will be with you until she graduates next year.
