How to Stay Connected in Online High School

“No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.”

To some, online education might seem kind of lonely.  The common picture people have is a person sitting in their basement on a computer by themselves watching some prerecorded video, filling in the blanks to answer some questions, and calling it a day.

Honestly, it’s a pretty poor representation of online high school.

There are some who do choose online education simply because they don’t like people and would rather be by themselves.  But the majority are everyday folks who’s needs are simply better met by the freedom online education provides.

And for them, it’s important to stay connected.  Honestly, it’s important for everyone to stay connected to people and the world around them.  No man is an island.  People need people to stay sharp and to stay sane.

The good news is, you can take care of your education online and still stay connected.  In fact, if anything, it makes it easier for you to have an active social life.

Talking to Your Teachers

Just because you don’t sit in an actual classroom with your teachers doesn’t mean you can’t be in constant communication with them.  Your teachers are there to teach YOU. If you are getting something or need a bit of guidance, it’s their job to assist you.

Don’t hesitate to contact your teachers.  They want to help.

Connect with Others Like You

If you can get in contact with other students taking your class, do so.  Send them an email to see how they’re doing.  You never know what connections you might make.  Otherwise, look online for different communities of people doing online education.  There are forums, Facebook groups, Google+ pages and more filled with people talking about the same things your experiencing.

Join the conversation.

Keep in Contact with Real People

Talking to people face-to-face is a good thing.  You should probably make sure you’re going that.  Since you determine your own school schedule, it should be easy to meet up with people or invite them over.  Don’t hesitate to talk to other people about your online education.

A lot of people don’t know anything about online school and are very interested to hear how it works.  Talk about it enough, and you just might convert some of your friends to the world of online education.
