One of the advantages of being an Excel High School student is the large variety of electives you get to choose from. Because we aren’t hindered by a complicated room schedule or the geographical location of our instructors, our elective selection includes plenty of interesting courses that offer real life skills or technical training. If you want to learn some practical life skills, we’ve got you covered, and if you want to explore some potential career choices, we’ve got lots of options for you there, too. From coding to Federal Aviation Administration Ground school, there is bound to be something you’ll find either practical or interesting…or both!
Excel has a large variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) courses. On top of offering solid math and science content, our students also have the opportunity to expand their knowledge base from a variety of unique STEM classes like those listed below:
- • Introduction to Computer Applications
- • Computer Engineering
- • Biotechnology
- • Introduction to Tech Science
- • Electrical Engineering
- • Mechanical Engineering
- • Chemical Engineering
- • Introduction to Coding
There’s bound to be something of interest for students who enjoy technology or engineering!
EHS students can also choose from courses that will help them gain clarity about potential career choices beyond STEM fields. We offer plenty of electives for either a half or full credit that will let students get to know the basics of a career pathway to give them a better idea of what that field entails. Here are a few of the options students can check out for elective credits:
- • Introduction to Business
- • Finance
- • Introduction to Accounting
- • Business Management
- • Marketing
- • Astronomy
- • Forensic Science
- • Sports Science
- • Sports Medicine
Too many students switch majors after two or three years in college because they didn’t really understand what the classes would require. Taking a class or two in order to make sure the field is really going to stay interesting to you is a smart way to plan ahead.
Excel also offers courses that can teach practical skills to prepare for life on your own. Life Skills gives students an overview of plenty of different topics, like how to plan a budget, the basics of credit, and some simple safety and first aid tips. Introduction to Computer Applications ensures that students know how to use the technology around them in everyday life. Our Spanish and French courses can prepare you to travel abroad and give you a greater appreciation for a variety of cultures and traditions, while Psychology and Sociology will help you view the world around you in a more understanding light.
A variety of electives is a bonus for students learning online, so be sure to check out all the unique courses we have to offer before choosing your next set of classes.
