Two-semester course that focuses on statistics, in-depth focus on the rational number system (whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals) plane geometry topics including measurement and symmetry, introduction to variables and formulas, patterns, simple equations, number theory, probability and functions. Interspersed throughout the course are numerous opportunities for the development of vital problem-solving skills at the middle school level. These problem-solving lessons are designed to be integrated into the regular curriculum or may be used as a stand-alone mini-unit course. Topics include: working backwards, making a table, and creating a pattern.
